Children who grow up in poverty tend to have the fewest learning materials at home and experience higher rates of learning loss. For families struggling to put food on the table, books are an unaffordable luxury. If you have shelves full of books you no longer look at, or that your children or students no longer read, consider sending them to The Growth Center, where they will enrich lives as they encourage a love of reading and learning. You can sponsor a used book drive and help us collect used books for our school and for a community library which we want to start. This could also be a great way for your kids to truly affect the life of another less fortunate child. Involving kids in service projects is a great idea. It will teach them to be selfless, generous, and productive members of society at a young age. We have a facility or free space that can be turned into a library for the community if we have enough books.
You can support us by sending your own books, your classroom books, or collecting books. You can also ask your local book store, or library, to donate books, or put an ad in your neighborhood paper asking for book donations. Contact us at info@malawigc.org and let us know what you have to donate. We’ll ship the books to The Growth Center in Malawi.
