Housing
Safe housing is a key social determinant of health. The Growth Center's housing program advances both housing and health equity for the chronically ill and the disabled population. This program is consistently working at the intersection of housing, human services, and health. We employ a range of person-centered, holistic approaches that incorporate not only home repairs and modifications but community resources as well.
People with a disability and the chronically ill who are also without decent housing are exposed to greater personal and environmental risks, are less nourished, and have less access to health care. Substandard and deteriorating housing can contribute to a variety of serious ailments, stress, and psychological and behavioral dysfunction.
We build because we believe that everyone, everywhere should have a healthy place to call home. By following in Jesus' footsteps, we look to support those who need it most and transform their lives whether poor, powerless, at risk or vulnerable—we are called to help. Your donation will help families in need of a decent home and can help us do more.
One of the beneficiaries of this program is Esther who was born blind and the Growth Center assisted in building a house for her. Many blind people end up living helpless lives with no livelihood or place they can call home. They are often neglected by society and some families have even abandoned their blind loved ones.
